Why Chiswick is the Perfect Place to Train BJJ in West London

September 2024 4 min read

Wave BJJ is based in Chiswick — a neighbourhood in West London that punches well above its weight as a training destination. Here is why we love it here and why it might be the right place for you to start your BJJ journey.

Society Members Club

We train at Society Members Club, 11–13 Chiswick High Road, London W4 2ND — a premium fitness facility on one of West London's most vibrant high streets. The venue has been purpose-built for serious training, with high-quality mats, good changing facilities and a welcoming atmosphere.

Being part of Society Members Club also means access to additional facilities beyond BJJ — including functional fitness and gym equipment — which Wave BJJ members can take advantage of as part of their membership.

Easy to Get To

Chiswick High Road is one of the better-connected streets in West London. We are a few minutes' walk from Stamford Brook station on the District Line, making us accessible from central London, Richmond, Ealing and the wider west London area within a straightforward commute.

There is also good bus connectivity along the A4 corridor, and parking is available nearby for those driving in from further afield.

A Genuine Training Community

What makes Wave BJJ more than a gym is the community that has built up around it. We have students who have been training with us for years — through belt promotions, competitions, life changes and everything in between. The friendships formed on the mat at Wave are some of the most genuine you will find.

Chiswick itself attracts a diverse mix of professionals, creatives, families and athletes. That diversity is reflected in our membership — people from all walks of life, united by a shared love of BJJ.

Head Coach Lorenzo Fraquelli

Wave BJJ was founded by Lorenzo Fraquelli, a BJJ black belt with extensive competition and coaching experience. Lorenzo built Wave on the belief that world-class instruction should be accessible to everyone — not just competitive athletes or those with prior martial arts experience.

Training under a black belt who genuinely cares about his students' development is something that distinguishes Wave BJJ from larger, more anonymous gyms. Lorenzo knows his students, adapts his instruction to their level, and creates an environment where everyone from white belt beginners to experienced grapplers continues to improve.

A Full Training Programme

Wave BJJ offers more than just BJJ. Our weekly timetable covers gi and no-gi BJJ, striking conditioning, boxing, functional fitness through Forge Gym and mobility work. Whether you are training purely for BJJ or building a broader athletic base, you can get everything you need at Wave.

All of this is available under one membership, at one venue, with one tight-knit community.

West London's BJJ Scene

West London has developed a strong BJJ scene over the past decade, and Chiswick is well-positioned within it. Whether you are coming from Hammersmith, Richmond, Acton, Shepherd's Bush or further afield, Wave BJJ is one of the most accessible and well-regarded academies in the area.

We regularly see students travel significant distances to train with us — a testament to the quality of instruction and the strength of the community here.
